Last week's speaker was David Wallis, the Head Professional at
the Ballarat Golf Club.
David has been at the Golf Club for 11 years, and the Head
Professional for 8. The Club is one of very few golf clubs with continual
growth and with 5 PGA Professionals on staff they are leading the way in golf
development.
During the COVID-19 pandemic golf has thrived, expanded, in
fact it has sky-rocketed from 80 players average per day to approx. 150 players
per day.
Club Membership has increased from 700 to 900 members, and a
'problem' has been that there have been so many members playing that there has
been little space for visitors to play.
To be a Head Professional not only involves an incredible
handicap, but a 3-year traineeship leading to a Diploma of Business Management
and a Diploma of Sport Management. His aim is that he provides both a service
and a product business.
He has surrounded himself with a very talented pro-team, which
assist David in running The Ballarat Junior Golf Academy with over 100 juniors
and the largest beginner female program in Regional Victoria.
Ballarat has fantastic golf facilities and is much cheaper
than similar courses in other regions - very good value for money.
David has had several visits to the US, including the Ryder
Cup, US Masters and also developing his own skills working alongside the elite
of the elite in the USA. This brings an enormous amount of vision and expertise
back to Ballarat.
