Last week's speaker was President Warren Payne.
Warren used this meeting to help him, and the Club Board determine
the Club's focus for the year ahead.
In particular, Warren facilitated a very engaging workshop which
sought to garner member's views on adopting an environmental program as well as
setting a medium term (3-5 years) objective to support a major local project.
Support was voiced for adopting a modest environmental
program with the specific focus to be determined later. An in-depth discussion
occurred regarding the suggestion by Warren that the Club adopt a medium-long
term approach to supporting a substantial local project.
This suggestion was strongly supported and the potential to
use this approach to support our Centenary Project was also strongly endorsed.
A range of potential areas of focus were canvassed.
This included health, the disadvantaged, the arts, youth,
and education. Broadly, strong support was expressed for supporting a major
project focused on disadvantaged youth.
Examples raised included youth homelessness and maternal and
child health support for young mothers.
The potential for each of our sub-committees to take a
longer-term approach to planning was also raised. Importantly the ongoing and
critical need to secure additional club members was highlighted.
