Guest Speakers - Defying the Drift - 13th Oct 22 Gallery

Last week's meeting was a special occasion as we were treated to terrific presentations by each of the four students we sponsored to participate in the 2022 Defying the Drift program. The four students, Katie Dexter and Daisy Sudholz from Ballarat Clarendon College and Tom Burrows and Connor Harwood from Ballarat High School each spoke excitedly about their experience at the program conducted at Longerenong Agricultural College in Horsham. In addition to receiving lessons on topics such as public speaking the students visited four very different agricultural businesses located across the Wimmera. The visits were designed to provide the students with a wide-ranging understanding of the career opportunities available in agriculture.
The students reported on their learnings from visits to a broad acre farm, grains innovation park smart farm, the Australian wildflowers investment company and Barton Station. It was clear that they each were amazed at the role technology was having at each of the farms. The club is indebted to Deb Robinson from the Rotary Club of Alfredton who was a member of the Defying the Drift organizing committee. Special thanks also to Vocational Committee Chair, Geoff Leslie for organizing the Club's involvement in the program and to Jen McGie from Ballarat Clarendon College and Allysen Dovaston from Ballarat High School for their support to nominate the four students.
