Visit to the Ranger Military Museum - 13/4/2023 Gallery

Our regular weekly meeting had a different feel last week as we ventured along Sturt Street to visit the Ranger Barracks Museum. Our visit was hosted by Major Neil Leckie, RFD (Ret'd) and Major Bill Akell CSM.

Neil provided an overview of the history of the museum. He explained how the museum housed a collection of militaria belonging to units which have served Ballarat and District dating back to 1858 when the Ballarat Volunteer Rifle Regiment was formed and extending to the current Ballarat Army Reserve unit of the 8th/7th Battalion, .The Royal Victoria Regiment.

There is now doubt the museum contains a treasure trove of items depicting our City's military history. The visit was a resounding success as members chatted and discussed the displays and quizzed Neil and Bill on the history behind many of the exhibits.
